Layered Escape
A relaxed retreat designed for living well, indoors and out
This second home was designed as an easy escape. It is equally loved by its owners and welcoming as a vacation rental in a highly desirable area. The house was beautiful, but felt dated and disconnected from its surroundings.
We started by removing what felt heavy, clearing excessive brick to reveal the natural landscape and let the outdoor spaces breathe again. Inside, a new first-floor primary suite with a spa-like bath was added and opened directly to the deck, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, complete with an outdoor shower.
Rather than overhaul the kitchen, we refined it. The island was reworked to create better function and add warmth and texture that created a more open, modern feel. Architectural elements were reshaped and simplified, and furnishings were thoughtfully curated to create intimate places to gather throughout. The result is a home that feels relaxed, personal, and designed to invite people in to sit gather and stay a while.
